The 8th grade experienced FutureU yesterday! Students participated in scenarios from young adult life, such as paying bills. They learned about budgeting and banking while professionals from Topeka spoke about their careers. Lastly, they visited stations about career planning.

This is the 2nd year that bowling has been offered at SHMS and newer programs have to fundraise for the first 3 years. The funds collected from this fundraiser will be applied towards coaches’ stipends, bowling center fees, uniforms and equipment for the team. We have about 65 students that would like to participate. The Support SHMS Support Local fundraiser was a success. Students sold $16,565 worth of locally produced items and raised $5930 for the school. The top selling class was Mrs. Hobby’s 8th grade advisor class with $1923 in gross sales. Their prize was a pizza lunch at Thunderbirds Grille. A special thanks to our parents, extended family members, friends, supports and the 7 small businesses who supported the fundraiser: Cashmere Popcorn LLC, Leonard Meat, Stumpy's Smoked Cheese, Blue Jazz Coffee Roasters, T Creek Bees & Honey, and Mom & I's Candy
