Booster Club/PTO

The SHMS Parent Teacher Organization is a parent-driven service and fundraising organization dedicated to supporting instructional activities, teachers, and students at the middle school.  The PTO has a regular monthly meeting which is held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month except for July.  The meeting is at 6:00 PM in the middle school library.  There are multiple opportunities to volunteer.  The primary function of the PTO is to fund teacher grant requests for instructional items and projects that cannot be supported by the district.  To become involved please send an email to Shawneeheightsmspto@gmail.com

Vice President/Fundraising Chair

Assistant to the president (running meetings in absence of, etc). Responsible for the trash bag fundraiser (Jan. - Mar.) Becomes president the following school year.

Concessions Chair/Co-Chair

Running and organizing the concession stand for all home games which includes purchasing and stocking products in the stand(s), some setup, getting the needed volunteer information to the volunteer coordinator, etc.

PTO Position Descriptions

President
Communicates with administration and all committees of PTO. Leads the monthly meetings. Coordinates/assists the work of all officers and committees as needed.    

Vice-President/Fundraising Chair 
Assistant to the president (running meetings in absence of, etc). Responsible for the year’s fundraisers. Becomes president for the following school year

Secretary 
Responsible for taking notes at the monthly meetings and getting a copy of those minutes to the president to be approved at the PTO meetings each month.

Treasurer
Responsible for all money matters of the organization such as being the lead for setting the budget for the upcoming school year, keeping the treasurer’s and budget reports, presenting both reports at the monthly meetings, paying the organization’s bills, etc.
                                                                            
Concessions Co-Chairs                
Running & organizing the concession stand for all home games which includes purchasing and stocking products in the stand(s), some setup, getting the needed volunteer information to the volunteer coordinator, etc

Volunteer Coordinator                   
Organizes the SignUpGenius to coordinate all volunteers needed for the school events such as dances, concession stand, etc.

Hospitality                                    
Responsible for conference meals in October and February, Teacher Appreciation meal 1st week of May & 1-2 staff meals during the school year. Decides on menu, purchases (PTO cost) & prepares main dish, receives other items donated by parents for each meal, sets out and cleans up after.
                    
Marketing/Communications           
Attend PTO meetings and take note of upcoming volunteer needs, fundraising events, and any messaging that PTO members want SHMS families to know. Use communications channels such as Facebook (FB) class pages (ask to be an admin on "Shawnee Heights Class of ..." FB pages), SHMS FB page, email, and flyers to reach out to the community. Work with SHMS Assistant Principal (or designated school administrator) to send messages through email and
SHMS FB page (facebook.com/shmseducators). Time commitment for this position is about 2-3 hours per month (1 hour PTO meeting per month and 1-2 hour per month to create FB graphics/posts and an occasional flyer). Free graphics site Canva.com is quick and easy to use to create graphics and flyers. Work with SHMS office to post updates on USD450 SHMS webpage (shms.usd450.net/o/shawnee-heights-middle-school/page/booster-club-pto).

7th
gr Rep                                    
Shadows the 8th gr Rep and becomes the 8th gr Rep for the following school year

8th gr Rep                                    
Responsible for the 8th promotion events (parent & school). Organizing any meetings, committees and money received to help with the planning and execution of these events  

Site Council Rep                           
Represents the PTO at the Site Council meetings, sharing any important or relevant information about SHMS to the council and vice versa. Site Council meetings are held quarterly at the high school.

DAC Rep                                     
(District Advisory Council) Representing the PTO at the monthly DAC meetings, sharing any important or relevant information about SHMS to DAC and vice versa. DAC meetings are normally on the second Monday of each month at the high school.

Spirit Wear                                   
Responsible for all SHMS spirit wear including general wear and all sportswear. Obtains vendor, organizes sales, delivery, etc.
