Interested in cheerleading for the 2026 school year? Tryout packets are available in the school office at your student’s building.
Important Dates:
Parent Meeting: Thursday, February 26th at 5:00 PM – SHMS Commons
Cheer Clinic: March 3rd–5th, 5:00–6:30 PM – SHMS Gym
Tryouts: March 6th, starting at 5:00 PM – SHMS Gym

Current 8th-11th-grade students interested in trying out for the SHHS Thunderettes Dance Team are encouraged to attend the pre-audition clinics on February 11 and 18. These sessions are designed to help students prepare for tryouts by reviewing expectations and requirements and answering questions about what to work on leading up to tryout week.
The tryout clinic on March 10 will be when students learn the choreography they will perform at formal tryouts on March 12. Email Roberta Freeman at freemanr@usd450.net with questions. Good Luck!

SHMS is working on finalizing the bowling schedule for 2026. Once completed, that information can be located on our Bowling website.

Student Interest Meeting: This will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, in the commons during advisor.
Cost: Bowling fees consist of the $45 sports fee (if the student has not already played a 2025-2026 sport) and the bowling polo will be an additional cost ranging from $15-$25.
Fees Due: All applicable fees must be paid by Friday, January 9th, before the bowler attends practice.
Practice Information
Bowlers will practice at Gage Bowl beginning Tuesday, January 6th.
The school will provide one bus to and from Gage Bowl each day.
Gage Bowl assigns each school a limited number of practice lanes. Thus, bowlers will practice every other day. (subject to change)
Parent Meeting: Thursday, January 8th, at 5:30 in the middle school commons.
Participants must complete the following before practice or tryouts begin:
Have a completed physical. This can be emailed to the office SHMSAthletic@usd450.net, dropped off in the office (office hours are 7:15 - 3:30 M-F), or brought in before the first day of practice.
No player will be allowed to participate without a completed KSHSAA physical packet on file.
All athletes must have a physical on file in the MS office before they can attend practice (no exceptions).

🍞 Writing in Action: PB&J Edition!
Mrs. Wooten’s SHMS students put their writing skills to the test with a delicious challenge — crafting step-by-step instructions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The twist? Mrs. Wooten followed their directions exactly as written… messy hands and all.
This hands-on lesson provided students with a fun way to practice sequencing, clarity, and detail, while illustrating the importance of clear communication.
