Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors at SHHS may earn college credit by:
successfully completing examination requirements at the end of AP courses offered on the high school campus.
successfully completing concurrent credit courses offered through Washburn University or Allen Community College on the high school campus.
successfully completing university courses on the Washburn University campus with the expressed permission of parents and school. (Only seniors have this option.)

NOTE:
1. Students must be accepted to Washburn University (or other accredited institutions) according to guidelines for enrollment and be a student in good standing at SHHS and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
2. Credit will be awarded at a rate of 1 credit per 5-hour course and 0.5 credit per 3-hour course.
3. Students participating in advanced studies (university or technical school) during the school day will be under the direct supervision of their school counselor.

All juniors and seniors desiring concurrent credit must meet eligibility requirements due to a recent directive of the Kansas Board of Regents.
The student eligibility requirements for Washburn University concurrent credit courses are as follows:
1. To enroll in MA 114, College Algebra, a student must meet the following criteria:
a. 3.0 high school GPA
b. 22 on math section of the ACT
c. Have a qualifying score on the COMPASS exam through Washburn University
2. To enroll in MA 140, College Statistics, a student must meet the following criteria:
a. 3.0 high school GPA
b. 25 on math section of the ACT
c. Have a qualifying g score on the COMPASS exam through Washburn University
d. Receive a grade of "C" or better in College Algebra
3. To enroll in any other Washburn concurrent enrollment class, a student must meet one of the following criteria:
a. PSAT Selection Index of at least 150
b. ASSET reading skills subtest score of at least 43 and numerical skills subtest score of at least 39
c. SAT combined verbal and mathematical score of at least 1000
d. PLAN test composite of at least 21.
The student eligibility requirements for Allen Community College concurrent credit courses are as follows:
1. To enroll in any Allen C.C. concurrent enrollment class, a student must meet one of the following criteria:
a. Score of at least 19 on the ACT reading subtest
b. ASSET reading skills subtest score of at least 40
Transfer of Concurrent Credit
To be certain that credits will transfer to the college or university where you plan to obtain your degree, check with your chosen college/university.
KBOR has established an agreement with all Kansas institutions regarding the transfer of the general elective credits offered through CEP Programs.
Washburn University:
$155 per credit hour
6 hour limit per semester with prior approval from counselor
Book Rental or purchase dependent on class
Student pays Washburn University directly
Allen Community College:
$99 per credit hour, which includes textbook rental
Student pays Allen Community College directly

The first step is to apply for admission as a high school student. Once this is done work with your counselor on what classes to enroll in.
